Although many artists spend their lives staying in a comfort zone of medium and subject matter, I am walking a path of “making”, that is guided by ideas that continually “POP” out of the ether. I discovered quilt-making when I was a 20 year old art student. But after many decades, there are really only so many beds you can cover. More and more I am incorporating 3D ideas and mixing mediums in my work.
The images below relate the beginning of a new direction I want to pursue. I imagine taking imagery from fiber pieces and translating them into the vocabulary of linoleum printing while keeping the language of fabrics, embroidery, and quilting. Learning any new technique takes time and persistence. These first attempts, although rough to my eye, are an exciting beginning.
